How to choose your exercise equipment to suit your needs.
Your exercise equipment should add
life to your years. By this I mean that it must be fun to use, and it should
improve your health.
Many people will not exercise at home because they
fear
they may not be encouraged to continue their program. Most times this happens because they choose the
wrong tool to build their fitness with.
Your fitness equipment must be a stimulus in itself; it should help create a desire to get
and stay fit. Remember, if it is fun, then no one needs to push
you to do it.
Very often people think they need to go with a group because they do not see the
results when they work out by themselves. That is because their exercise machine
may not be inviting/encouraging enough.
How many times have people fallen victims to the ads featuring the 'sleek female'
or the 'Mr. Universe' standing beside some piece of exercise equipment that may not be
suitable for them? Are the needs of these 'models' the same as yours?
Exercise Equipment & Your Fitness Needs
What are your fitness needs? Is it to
-
shape up for the Olympics,
-
to loose some
weight,
-
to increase your cardiovascular health,
-
to increase your stamina, or simply,
-
to keep fit?
Exercise equipment and fitness needs vary for
person to person
If you are interested in muscle toning and I am interested in aerobic fitness,
our needs are different. If you are a 200-lb linebacker and I am a 140-lb
cross-country runner, our needs are different. If you just want to relieve the
routine stress you carry from work each day and the other person wants make it
to finals of a club meet, your needs are different.
You get the point? Therefore, the exercise equipment you need might also be
different.
Choosing Your Home Exercise Equipment
Recognizing these then, here are several
suggestions you need to bear in mind when looking for home exercise equipment or
fitness tools.
1. If you are just about beginning a fitness program you may want to choose a
machine that is not too expensive. This way, when you improve and are about to
turn "pro" you won't feel hurt parting with your machine.
2. Always remember that you get what you pay for. So do not just run out and buy
the cheapest
treadmill
or the cheapest weight bench. You might not like what you
get when you pull the carton.
3. Getting your own equipment is often less expensive than the typical gym
membership (about $400/year, or so). A good home fitness tool set would cost you
less and is yours for as long as you want to stay fit.
4. More often than not the other associated costs are equally high -
transportation, your time, waiting for a particular machine add to the cost of
the gym fee.
5. The stress in wanting to arrive at a gym at a certain time can be very
counter-productive.
6. The convenience of going at your own pace is invaluable. You may also want to
be at home if you have children - or you may not care to drop them off to stay
with family or friends while you are gone to get 'fit'. They will make wonderful
cheerleaders watching you in your home gym.
7. Many of these newer fitness tools can be easily stowed. This means a foldable
8. Do not buy any equipment purely because of the novelty - that soon wears off.
Have set goals. Maybe, say, to lose and keep off 50 pounds. Would you really want that? Then
go get your exercise equipment and work towards it - you will love it.
Do you want to be the 'Mr. Neighborhood' in
your area? Then, go for it - maybe get one of those total gym machines
and work towards your dream. Even when the novelty and the brilliance of the
technology seem to wear off, if you still have your dream, you will continue.
